As we bid farewell to our late colleague and friend, the Editor in Chief of Rise ‘N Shine Disability Magazine, Lwandile Ndlazi we are saddened.
The day we heard that our Editor was caught in a fire we went to the scene and indeed when we arrived at his place he had indeed perished in those flames. It was a really shocking image and will always be in our minds – wondering of course how he could have escaped in that situation as everything was burnt to ashes and he was on a wheelchair.
A memorial ceremony for his family, friends, colleagues and the community was held in remembrance of the wonderful memories they all shared with him. There were speakers from various groups including colleagues from the boxing fraternity, Rise ‘N Shine Disability Magazine and many others. Rise ‘N Shine Disability Magazine made a tribute observing the impact he had on their lives as an Editor and the role he played in educating them about disability.
Speaking on behalf of Rise ‘N Shine Cuma Bokwe made it very clear that there will never be another Lwandile. “Soze siphinde simfumane umntu ofana noLwandile”, she said. The Provincial Manager from Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) also paid his last respect and explained how he had known Lwandile. His family also sent a powerful message. “We thank God for your life King, you will always be in our hearts. YOU PLAYED A BIG ROLE IN OUR LIVES.
Rest in peace LWADZ. We will always love you”.
